About us?

The Faculty of Theology of the Mariano Galvez University of Guatemala is one of the pioneer faculties of theological study in our Latin American continent, and consequently one of the oldest in the country. Founded together with the University in 1966, the Faculty of Theology has made a notable presence in the context of the University and also within the context of the Christian ecclesiastical world, particularly evangelical.

Since its foundation, the primary objective of the Faculty has been to train the Christian leadership of the country, and from that perspective, since 2007,lit has promoted the study of graduates from different seminaries and religious institutions in the country, in order to have access to a degree in systematic theology. To this end, the Faculty founded a special leveling and professionalization program to train Christian leadership and to found the network of theological institutions for university recognition of their programs.

In the perspective of internal dialogue within the university, the Faculty promoted the creation of three master's degrees, the most outstanding of which are the master's degree in biblical studies for the special formation of ecclesiastical leaders, higher education in Christian values for the formation of university teachers, and the master's degree in science and faith for the interdisciplinary dialogue of faith with other sciences, especially in the context of the university.

The doctorate in sociology of religion, which is a specialty of the relationship between the Christian faith and the social sciences, stands out in a special way. God continues to bless our university and our Faculty for being useful instruments of his Kingdom in our country and in our continent.

Mission

The School of Theology exists to train people in the study and academic reflection of the faith and its ethical implications according to the scriptures and theological disciplines, in order to proclaim the lordship of Christ in the academic, social and ecclesial context of Guatemala in particular and Latin America in general.

Vision

To develop within the context of the university the interdisciplinary dialogue of the Christian faith with science, society and the church, in order to contribute to the development of the unity of faith through the death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Objectives

To provide comprehensive programs and services that promote the physical, mental and social well-being of older adults in the local community.

Learning methodologies

Theology, in its educational approach, promotes the critical study and interpretation of sacred texts, integrating disciplines such as history and philosophy for a holistic understanding of faith. The curriculum includes interreligious dialogue and hermeneutics, preparing students to apply teachings in current and multicultural contexts. Emphasis is placed on communication and argumentation skills for the dissemination and debate of theological matters. The purpose is to train theologians capable of making a significant contribution to the global spiritual and ethical dialogue.
